The Specialist Building Systems (SBS) Engineer position at the University of the West of England offers an exciting opportunity for individuals with a strong background in Building Management Systems (BMS) and controls. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, enhancement, and energy optimization of the university's diverse range of buildings, which include both modern and older structures. The position will play a crucial part in helping the university achieve its ambitious sustainability goals, particularly in reducing its carbon footprint and improving energy efficiency across the campus. The role will involve both technical and managerial aspects, including fault finding, monitoring, and resolving issues related to various building systems such as HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), fire alarms, security systems, and IT/telephony infrastructure. You'll work closely with contractors, ensuring effective communication, managing contracts, and providing technical briefs. Strong verbal and written communication skills will be key as you will need to interpret and explain complex technical, financial, and performance data to various stakeholders. As part of a dynamic and evolving team, you’ll also contribute to strategic planning, offering insights into future developments and helping optimize the asset lifecycle programme. The role is based at the vibrant Frenchay campus, and there may be occasional work across other university campuses.
