Monzo is on a mission to make money work for everyone by redefining traditional banking through innovation and customer-centric services. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with product managers, designers, analysts, and other engineers to build and support parts of Monzo’s core banking infrastructure. You’ll work with technologies like Go, Cassandra, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, Envoy Proxy, AWS, and GCP, though prior experience in these is not required. Your focus will be on solving real customer problems, writing resilient distributed systems, and contributing to a scalable platform. You don’t need a formal degree—just strong backend experience and a passion for learning. Monzo supports flexible working, offers visa sponsorship and relocation assistance, and provides a generous compensation package including a base salary of £95,000–£130,000, stock options, and a £1,000 learning budget. The hiring process includes an initial call, take-home task or pair coding session, and a final interview covering system design and behavioral questions. The position is open across collectives such as Core Banking, Fincrime, Platform, Payments, and more, and there’s no closing date for applications. Monzo is committed to diversity and inclusion, encouraging candidates from all backgrounds to apply.
