Souparna Giri

Souparna Giri is assisting senior client stakeholders in converting their vision and goals into strategic digital transformation programmes, ensuring that they are successfully delivered through his unique skills & talent for bridging the gap between business & IT through "data storytelling" & articulation of the business value of pragmatic data solutions.

From an MBA student in Marketing to a Director of one of the Big 4 UK, Souparna Giri's professional journey inspires many overseas professionals like him who seek opportunities to grow and become a leader in the global technology industry. As an Indian immigrant hailing from West Bengal, Souparna knew well of the challenges and roadblocks he had to overcome to make a name in the global setting. But he kept going and ultimately climbed to the top of his career ladder, holding numerous leadership positions with international consulting firms and has served as the leader of sizable multinational teams in the UK, India, and the USA.

With over twenty years of experience in the IT industry,  Souparna is a business leader committed to transforming organisations with the aid of technology, data, and insight to create a better working environment. Currently, he holds the most prominent position as a Director of one of the Big 4 Uk, leading the expansion of market share in the data analytics and customer-led transformation sectors by providing creative and industrialised solutions, producing top-notch results, and cultivating "Trusted Advisor" connections.

According to him, companies require dependable consultants who can assist them in formulating concise, practical digital solutions to complex business challenges. This is where Souparna Giri is assisting senior client stakeholders in converting their vision and goals into strategic digital transformation programmes, ensuring that they are successfully delivered through his unique skills & talent for bridging the gap between business & IT through "data storytelling" & articulation of the business value of pragmatic data solutions.

Since 2008, Souparna has had to travel frequently for his job as a technology consultant, leaving behind his family and his emotional attachment to India. Moreover, he regularly travelled from India to Europe and the UK between 2008 and 2011 while choosing to relocate overseas, which was a difficult choice to make, according to Souparna. He debated between the USA and the UK because the USA was more appealing from a career standpoint. He was unsure at one point if he would establish himself in the UK while working here. At that time, he lacked a robust professional network that would have made it simple for him to learn about the sector, broader opportunities, the prerequisites for settling in the UK, etc. Souparna Giri believes that he would have benefited if he had had access to knowledge and a professional network at the time. He ultimately decided to establish himself in the UK since he admired the culture, way of life, and the country's proximity to India.

While speaking of his secret ingredients to success, Souparna said, "resilience, ambition, and confidence kept me motivated to put in long hours of work". He had the good fortune to serve in senior leadership positions for some of the major consulting firms in the world during the past 20 years. Along the way, he has had both setbacks and accomplishments, and everyone is doomed to experience both success and failure in Souparna's eyes.

The ability to persevere through adversity, maintain one's goal, and have faith in one's abilities are the keys to long-term success, according to Souparna Giri. He considers every setback as a launching pad for a stronger comeback, and he tries to learn from each one. For Souparna, life and work are infinite journeys where the journey itself matters more than the final destination. In an effort to quell his curiosity, Souparna always looks forward to an enlightening experience. This way of thinking has given him the will to take on new challenges and adapt to change. Most importantly, he never had any set objectives, which allowed him to develop and seek out experiences that would be more meaningful for the next chapter of his life.

There are no shortcuts to success, according to Souparna Giri, who recommends that establishing self-awareness and an authentic leadership style are the most crucial elements to success. "Achieving sustainable success calls for ongoing personal growth, which includes enhancing one's mental fortitude, emotional intelligence, technical proficiency, leadership, and a host of other traits", he adds.

Souparna continues, "Once people are in charge of their mind, then they are in control of their own destiny." Self-awareness teaches people how to control their emotions and helps them understand themselves better. On a personal level, Souparna wished he had been a little more at ease and relaxed when facing uncertainties when he was younger. He exhorts everyone to practise introspection because it has improved his profession and helped him become the successful business leader he is today. He usually makes time for himself by sitting alone on a couch or taking a short drive with coffee, using the opportunity to reflect on his personal growth, new ideas, lessons learned from mistakes made in the past, and future ambitions, among other things. This behaviour really aided him in making the appropriate decision and navigating uncertainty with assurance.

When discussing his reading habits with our TC team, Souparna revealed that he frequently reads various articles and posts on LinkedIn and watches YouTube. He also relishes time with his family and enjoys travelling, meeting friends, watching movies, and participating in sports, particularly golf. When asked about his weekends, he replies, "On Sundays, you'll find me on the golf course," further demonstrating his passion for the game. He also exhibits his fondness for golf by participating in the EY Golf 2018 competition at the Tollygunge Club in Kolkata, India. When asked about the most important issues to him, Souparna says that the environmental side of the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda is particularly troubling because of the increasingly harsh and unpredictable weather, which is not favourable for the ecosystem. "If action is not taken now to help counteract environmental damage, we will be held accountable for leaving our children with a world that is unfit for human habitation.", Souparna adds.
