As an AIT (Assembly, Integration, and Test) Systems Engineer at Orbex, you will act as the systems engineering representative for AIT, supporting ground support equipment development, subsystem and integrated system-level tests, and planning and executing mechanical and electrical integration of rocket hardware. You will work at the intersection of flight hardware, ground systems, and test environments, managing system-level requirements and ensuring tests are fit for purpose as the project moves from component-level validation to stage-level qualification and full vehicle integration. This role is pivotal to end-to-end testing, including integrated stage tests and final vehicle preparations for launch. Key responsibilities include interfacing between systems engineering, fluids, propulsion, and AIT teams; supporting the definition and validation of test requirements; developing and maintaining system-level test documentation; participating in test campaigns for subsystem and full-stage testing; planning, coordinating, and overseeing the integration of flight hardware across vehicle stages; driving Test Readiness Reviews, issue identification, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation; providing inputs to systems architecture, fluid schematics, FBDs, and operational flow; and supporting MBSE model development and systems logic. The role requires a strong hands-on attitude, problem-solving drive, cross-functional communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure during live test campaigns, with desirable skills including knowledge of complex systems, launch vehicle architecture, Python or MATLAB programming, and prior experience in startup, engine testing, AIT, or military/field environments.
