Cambridge University Press & Assessment is seeking a Solutions Engineer for their Cambridge office on a full-time, permanent basis, with a hybrid working model of 2-3 days per week in Cambridge, offering a salary of £49,000-£65,500 per annum. This role involves being the crucial link between solution design and software development, reporting to the Technical Delivery Manager, translating high-level architecture into detailed technical specifications, and guiding development teams to success while working closely with Solution Owners, Developers, and Technical Stakeholders to ensure clarity, alignment, and quality throughout the delivery lifecycle. Key responsibilities include deconstructing solution architectures into modular components and data flows, creating detailed technical specifications including API contracts and integration points, collaborating with stakeholders to align business goals with technical execution, providing technical direction and support to developers, ensuring solutions meet architectural, security, and performance standards, maintaining clear documentation of system architecture and decisions, and mentoring developers on best practices and architectural patterns. The role requires daily interaction with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, Architects, Developers, QA, DevOps teams, central architecture and project offices, and third-party technology suppliers. Essential qualifications include 5+ years as a development engineer, 2+ years in a technical lead role, strong programming skills in Java, Python, JavaScript, NodeJS, and React, experience with CI/CD tools and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and proven ability to create detailed technical specifications and manage technical stakeholders, while preferred qualifications include experience with Customer Identity Management platforms and familiarity with frameworks like Spring, Angular, Selenium, and Cucumber. Candidates should be confident in their technical knowledge, able to challenge constructively, team players capable of mentoring, able to think holistically while diving into technical detail, self-organised, adaptable, and eager to learn new technologies. Cambridge University Press & Assessment is a hybrid working organisation with flexible working options, expecting 40-60% of time in-office, and considers adjustments for flexible work arrangements or disabilities.
