The Senior Systems Engineer leads advancements in research computing technology, software, storage, instrumentation, visualisation, and data analytics within the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Glasgow. The role involves managing and maintaining the High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure, supporting research applications, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure reliability, security, and efficiency of computing systems. Responsibilities include overseeing system design, lifecycle management, and customisation to meet research project needs while driving continuous improvement. The engineer will lead in HPC capacity planning, software upgrades, and ensure compliance with security and legislation requirements. Strong technical skills in Linux/Unix systems, scripting, containerisation (Docker), orchestration (Ansible), and research computing tools are required. Effective communication, leadership, and the ability to manage multiple systems and teams are also essential. Visa sponsorship is available under the Skilled Worker route for eligible candidates.
