The Senior Systems Administrator at the University of Glasgow will be responsible for managing and maintaining the college’s IT infrastructure to ensure the smooth operation of servers, storage, networks, and security systems. Reporting to the Infrastructure Lead, the role involves configuring and supporting physical and virtual servers, performing performance monitoring, implementing system upgrades, and contributing to disaster recovery plans. The postholder will also coach junior staff, provide specialist technical support to end-users, and collaborate with academic and professional teams to deliver infrastructure projects. Strong expertise in Windows Server and/or Linux, scripting (PowerShell/Linux shell), virtualization (Hyper-V, Docker), information security, and scalable server architecture is required. The candidate must demonstrate excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills. This full-time, permanent position offers a salary range of £33,482 to £37,174 and may be eligible for UK Skilled Worker visa sponsorship based on eligibility criteria.
