As a Founding Senior Engineer at Tracer, you will be responsible for building the company’s core observability platform for high-performance computing in the life sciences sector. Your role will include architecting and developing a Rust-based client for data ingestion, designing and implementing key platform features such as data ingestion connectors, logs management systems, observability interfaces, and error resolution tools, while also driving architectural decisions and leading deployments on customer cloud environments. You will work closely with the founding engineering team to ensure technical solutions align with business goals, mentor peers to foster engineering excellence, and contribute production-level code to solve some of the most complex engineering challenges. The position requires at least 5+ years of experience in building complex software systems, proven expertise in solving challenging engineering problems, and deep technical knowledge in high-performance computing, observability, cloud infrastructure, data engineering, or data science, along with proficiency in low-level programming such as Rust or C. Candidates should demonstrate a strong product mindset, the ability to ship complex products quickly, and experience leveraging open-source architectures in fast-paced environments. Bonus points are awarded for experience in technical leadership, early-stage startups, or high-performance data infrastructure. While Tracer’s stack includes Rust, Nextflow, AlphaFold, AWS, Terraform, and eBPF, direct experience is not required as the company values strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn quickly. This is a full-time, on-site role based in London with a compensation range of £65K – £120K plus significant equity (0.5% – 1%), and UK visa sponsorship is offered for exceptional candidates.
