The Research Software Engineering Lead at the University of Glasgow will lead and manage the software engineering services provided by the Research Computing as a Service (RCaaS) team, supporting the university’s research community across multiple disciplines. This role involves developing and delivering high-quality, secure, and sustainable research software, enabling research creativity, collaboration, and innovation. The postholder will engage closely with principal investigators (PIs), co-develop research designs and funding proposals, and implement technical solutions that support research outputs, including software for data analysis, visualisation, AI, and high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. Responsibilities include setting strategic direction, planning, and managing the RCaaS software engineering service, contributing to funding proposals, maintaining metrics for performance, and leading a team of engineers. The role requires strong knowledge of modern programming languages (e.g., Python, R, C++, Java), best practices for reproducible research, experience in collaborative software development, and the ability to mentor, manage multiple projects, and engage with stakeholders at all levels.
