The Research Data Technical Specialist will play a key role in supporting the University of Glasgow’s data-driven research by enabling researchers to create, manage, and use research-ready data throughout the research lifecycle. The role involves implementing and advising on research data management practices in alignment with funder and institutional policies, promoting FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles, and supporting the setup and use of platforms such as REDCap and Trusted Research Environments. The postholder will assist researchers with managing large, sensitive, and complex datasets, ensure appropriate governance, and help maximise the value and impact of data through well-structured data workflows and training. Working as part of the Research Computing as a Service (RCaaS) team, the role requires a strong understanding of data infrastructure, metadata standards, and technical development including scripting and API integrations. The position also includes producing documentation, contributing to internal training, and collaborating with colleagues in research support, IT, and information governance. Candidates should possess excellent communication and technical skills, the ability to analyse data requirements across various disciplines, and a commitment to open science and continuous professional development.
