As a Research Associate in Protein Engineering, you will make a leading contribution to the UKRI funded MERLIN project, working with Dr William Peveler and the Bio-Nano Sensing group on the expression, modification, and testing of new protein-based sensing systems. You will lead on the design, recombinant expression (E. coli) and testing of new protein-based materials for sensing and contribute to the Chemical Biology aspects of the project, including computational design and docking with collaborators. Responsibilities include planning and conducting research individually or jointly according to project deliverables, documenting and analyzing data, maintaining records, drafting technical reports and papers, establishing and maintaining a research profile, presenting work at conferences, contributing to research proposals and funding applications, developing collaborations across the University and wider community, leading group meetings, mentoring students and junior team members, performing lab administration and budget management, staying updated with recent advances in the field, and engaging in professional development. Essential qualifications include a PhD or equivalent, strong knowledge of recombinant protein expression in bacterial systems, experience with protein purification and characterization, and relevant research skills. Desirable skills include knowledge of supramolecular chemistry, high-throughput assays, and data visualization. The post is full-time, funded for 18 months, and may be eligible for UK Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.
