The Research Associate in Protein Engineering at the University of Glasgow will make a leading contribution to the UKRI-funded MERLIN project, working with the Bio-Nano Sensing group on expression, modification, and testing of new protein-based sensing systems. The candidate will design, recombinantly express (E. coli), and test protein-based materials for sensing, support chemical biology aspects including computational design, contribute to research publications and proposals, and help manage project tasks. Responsibilities include planning and conducting research, documenting results, presenting at conferences, supervising students, maintaining lab management and expenditure, and collaborating with internal and external partners. Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent experience, extensive practical knowledge of recombinant protein expression in bacterial systems, skills in protein purification and characterization, ability to communicate complex technical material, and experience in research project supervision. Knowledge of supramolecular chemistry, high-throughput assays, data pipelines (R, Python, JMP, Matlab), and creating laboratory SOPs is desirable. The role is full-time, funded for up to 18 months with potential extension, and may be eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.
