An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Powertrain Systems Engineer to lead the design and development of base engine systems for a well-established engine manufacturing company based in Derbyshire, UK. This full-time, on-site role offers a salary between £60,000 and £75,000, with flexibility depending on experience. The successful candidate will work on both diesel and hydrogen combustion engine technologies, taking ownership of major subsystems and providing technical direction across multidisciplinary teams and suppliers. This position involves high-level systems engineering responsibilities such as requirements capture, technical specifications, tolerance analysis, validation planning, and supplier oversight—note this is not a CAD design role. Responsibilities include leading systems-level design from concept through validation, defining technical specifications, coordinating DFMEA reviews, collaborating with development, test, and manufacturing teams, and acting as the senior technical point of contact for suppliers. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, over 10 years of industry experience in base engine systems design, and strong technical expertise in components like valvetrains, timing gear systems, CCV, aftertreatment systems, fuel systems including hydrogen, and air handling systems. Familiarity with tools such as Creo or CATIA and experience in validation testing are also required.
