Nu Quantum is hiring a Principal AMO Physicist to join its Cambridge-based quantum hardware team, working hands-on on trapped-ion quantum networking testbeds that integrate proprietary microcavity technology with ion qubits. This senior experimental physics role sits at the intersection of atomic physics, cavity QED, and quantum engineering, focusing on remote entanglement experiments, benchmarking ion–photon interfaces, and advancing entanglement fidelity and scalability. The role involves designing and executing complex laboratory experiments, maintaining and troubleshooting laser systems, control electronics, UHV hardware, and automation platforms, while collaborating closely with software, optics, mechanical, electrical, and theory teams. The Principal AMO Physicist will provide technical leadership and mentoring to AMO physicists, contribute to technical strategy, improve experimental reliability and scalability, and uphold best practices in safety and documentation.
