Cranleigh STEM is partnering with an innovative startup that is pioneering advanced optical technologies and currently seeking a talented Optical Engineer to join their team and help drive the next generation of display performance. In this role, the Optical Engineer will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and testing novel optical components and systems, working in a collaborative environment alongside internal teams, industry partners, and customers to push the boundaries of optical technology. Key responsibilities include designing and optimising optical systems, conducting experimental testing to meet performance targets, collaborating with researchers and partners, and contributing to intellectual property development such as patent filings. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of geometrical and ray optics, experience with optical simulation tools like Zemax, Lumerical, or Ansys Speos, and hands-on optical experimentation experience, with a degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Preferred qualifications include experience with HMDs, HUDs, or free-space optics and an advanced degree such as a Master's or Ph.D. The position offers a competitive salary, equity options, pension scheme, 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, and the possibility of visa sponsorship for the right candidate.
