Orbex is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (AIT) to join their team in Forres, Scotland, supporting the design, analysis, and manufacturing of launch platform structures and ground system equipment. The role involves developing structural and mechanical components and assemblies for launch vehicles and their supporting ground segment equipment, including assembly and test fixtures. The engineer will conduct computational analysis for stress, static and dynamic loading, high temperatures, and vibrational impact, while providing hands-on support for hardware prototype development and testing. Responsibilities also include evaluating designs for functionality, ease of assembly, and safety, managing multiple tasks in parallel, developing detailed technical documentation, and ensuring adherence to requirements, safety standards, and industry regulations. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, including design, composites specialists, analysis, and manufacturing. Candidates should have a degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, experience in the full development lifecycle, proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX), knowledge of aerospace materials, numerical analysis tools like MATLAB/Simulink, and engine performance modeling tools. Desirable traits include hands-on experience with liquid or hybrid propulsion systems, fluid system testing and troubleshooting, and familiarity with aerospace industry standards.
