The Lead Test Engineer in the Power Electronics Validation Team at Quintessential Design Service Ltd (QDSL), located in West Midlands, UK, is a high-responsibility role focused on delivering best-in-class component testing for electric vehicle powertrain systems. The role involves leading validation of power electronic components such as inverters, DCDC converters, and chargers used in BEV, MHEV, and PHEV programs. This includes ensuring robust timing plans, developing or customizing test methods, managing test delivery during development and production phases, and ensuring quality and reliability standards are exceeded. The engineer will interact with multiple internal teams and external suppliers, overseeing testing across software, hardware, integration, system, and vehicle levels. The position requires hands-on experience with test automation using tools like dSpace, ControlDesk, Automation Desk, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, AVL PUMA, and Git, and a strong understanding of power-level 3-phase motor emulation and high voltage systems. The successful candidate will mentor junior engineers, coordinate tools and equipment, and drive innovation in test methods and efficiency, while collaborating across multiple time zones. Essential qualifications include a degree in electrical, electronic, or software engineering and a minimum of 3 years of automotive powertrain experience. Desirable attributes include familiarity with regulatory compliance for electrified vehicles, FPGA modelling with Xilinx, and strong knowledge of component and system-level testing, EMC, environmental testing, and APQP/FMEA processes.
