Orbex is seeking a Lead Stress Engineer to provide technical leadership to their flight structures team in developing the Orbex Prime launch vehicle. This role encompasses performing, validating, and documenting structural analysis via hand calculations and FEA for metallic and composite components; defining analysis and test plans derived from high-level requirements; iterating design concepts with sizing and optimization methods; and offering practical support for hardware testing. Candidates should possess a degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering and proven experience analyzing mass-efficient structures in aerospace, defense, or motorsport contexts, using tools like FEMAP, Nastran, Hypermesh, or Optistruct, and preparing CAD geometry for analysis. The work environment is fast-paced and requires strong communication, collaboration, adaptability, and proficiency in static testing and failure mode analysis. The role is fully onsite at Orbex’s facility in Forres, Scotland (due to export controls), and mandates UK/EU or MTCR-country citizenship, with potential BPSS security checks.
