About the job

Concrete4Change (C4C), a pioneering deep-tech R&D company based in Nottingham, UK, is seeking a highly skilled Lead Process (Commissioning) Operator to play a central role in operating and scaling its pilot plant for permanent CO₂ mineralisation in concrete, a technology recognised globally with awards from the United Nations, Royal Academy of Engineering, and the COP26 Climate Challenge Cup. The successful candidate will report directly to the CTO, lead and manage a small team of plant operators, develop and implement operational protocols, oversee day-to-day plant activities including commissioning, re-commissioning, maintenance, instrument calibration, data collection, troubleshooting, and ensure safe storage of raw materials and products while maintaining high standards of safety, housekeeping, and plant performance. The role requires close collaboration with the Senior Process Engineer and other cross-functional teams, participation in budgeting, planning, and resource allocation, and preparation for future customer deployments. Essential qualifications include a minimum of five years of experience in operating pilot or commercial plants, strong leadership and team management skills in an operational setting, high technical competence in areas such as electrical, mechanical, operations, instrumentation, or related fields, familiarity with COMAH Tier 2 safety practices including permit-to-work systems and isolations, practical hands-on abilities, flexibility to work non-standard hours when required, and possession of a full UK driving license. Desirable experience includes working in chemical, gas, oil, or bulk materials industries, proficiency in basic mechanical and electrical tasks, familiarity with CO₂ capture or mineralisation processes, knowledge of concrete or cement chemistry, additional skills in PLCs, laboratory work, NEBOSH, COSHH, or LOLER compliance, and forklift operation. The role offers a competitive salary of £45,000–£65,000 with performance-based bonuses, stock options or equity participation in a high-impact climate technology company, private health insurance, pension plan, generous annual leave, free food and coffee at the Nottingham office, opportunities to work directly with global concrete manufacturers, and visa sponsorship, making it an exceptional opportunity for candidates looking to advance their career in climate-tech scale-up while making a tangible impact on global CO₂ reduction.
