The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), is seeking a Laser Scientist to join the Central Laser Facility at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire. This role focuses on developing next-generation high-energy femtosecond laser systems operating at 100 Hz to 1 kHz pulse rates, supporting advanced plasma accelerator research and laser-driven X-ray source development. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, installation, and testing of prototype high-peak-power laser systems, work closely with engineers and researchers on optical design, nonlinear optics, and broadband pulse amplification, and participate in international collaborations. Candidates should hold a PhD in physics or a related field, with strong expertise in laser science, optical modeling, and diagnostics. The position offers a salary between £52,907 and £58,198 per annum, 30 days of annual leave, pension benefits, and professional growth opportunities. UKRI provides Skilled Worker visa sponsorship and may reimburse visa costs after employment begins.
