The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is seeking a highly skilled Laser Scientist to join the Central Laser Facility (CLF) at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Didcot, Oxfordshire. The role involves developing next-generation high-energy femtosecond laser systems operating between 100 Hz and 1 kHz pulse rates for advanced particle accelerator and X-ray source applications. The successful candidate will design, install, and test prototype laser systems, conduct experimental campaigns, and collaborate with engineers, technicians, and international research partners. Key responsibilities include optical system design, broadband pulse amplification modeling, proof-of-concept testing, and leading prototype installations. Applicants should hold a PhD (or equivalent experience) in physics or a related discipline, possess strong knowledge in optics, nonlinear optics, and solid-state laser physics, and be proficient with Matlab, LabVIEW, and optical design software.
