About the job

The University of Glasgow is seeking an experienced and motivated Intellectual Property & Data Manager to join its Innovation, Enterprise & Engagement Directorate (IEED). This full-time role involves providing specialist professional advice, leadership, and operational management for intellectual property (IP) arising from university research. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a complex portfolio of patents, maintaining accurate records on the university’s IP management system, coordinating with patent agents and lawyers, processing service charges and official fees, and ensuring that all legal and administrative formalities related to IP are handled with precision. The role also includes building strong relationships with academic and professional staff, supporting the creation and management of revenue-sharing and inter-institutional agreements, and accurately tracking licensing and spin-out transactions. The candidate will contribute to invention assessments through prior-art searches and market research, while also compiling essential IP-related metrics for institutional and funder reporting. Candidates should possess detailed knowledge of IP rights and the patent process, be highly IT-literate, and have strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. A degree in any discipline is required, with experience in IP management, data systems, and legal processes considered highly desirable. The position is open-ended with a competitive salary at Grade 7 (£40,497 - £45,413), includes relocation assistance, and offers a flexible hybrid working environment. Importantly, this post may be eligible for sponsorship under the UK Skilled Worker visa route, subject to meeting the visa requirements.
