Orbex is seeking a Head of System Modelling and Mission Analysis (SMMA) to lead the SMMA department, responsible for design, analysis, and performance assessment of Prime and Proxima launch vehicles. The role involves leading a multidisciplinary team of systems engineers, simulation architects, and mission analysts to develop models, perform trade studies, deliver insights, and drive end-to-end system simulation and mission-level analysis across satellite, launch vehicle, and interplanetary mission portfolios. Responsibilities include overseeing integrated physics-based and functional models for launch systems and GSE, leading mission analysis including trajectory design, orbital mechanics, mission timelines, and operational constraints, supporting spacecraft architecture and subsystem design, establishing and maintaining modelling toolchains (MATLAB/Simulink, GMAT, STK, FreeFlyer, ModelCenter, SysML), developing and enforcing modelling standards, V&V processes, documentation, and configuration control, interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring technical decisions are informed by quantitative evidence. Candidates should have significant experience in space systems engineering, mission analysis, trajectory optimization, orbital mechanics, model development, and MBSE, with preferred qualifications including Master’s or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Astrodynamics, or Physics, and experience with ESA, NASA, or commercial space initiatives.
