The Graduate Mechatronics Design Engineer role at STFC offers an exciting opportunity to work on high-precision mechatronic systems at the ISIS facility, one of Europe’s leading neutron and muon research centers. The role is part of the STFC Graduate Scheme, providing extensive technical training, mentoring, and career development support. Key responsibilities include delivering mechatronics engineering solutions to meet scientific requirements, working across all stages of engineering projects from concept, design, procurement, installation/commissioning, testing to final reporting. The role involves 2D & 3D CAD design, creating specifications, performing calculations to validate designs, programming electrical control systems using IEC 61131 languages, and presenting work to a wide audience. Candidates will gain experience with dynamic motorized systems, real-time control systems, and integration with mechanical, electrical, and scientific systems. The position also includes participating in outreach activities and some national/international travel. Essential qualifications include a minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant field, analytical and communication skills, technical understanding of mechatronics, and teamwork.
