Oliver Bernard is hiring a Founding Backend Engineer for an early-stage, venture-backed London startup building an AI-driven system designed to improve reliability and visibility across modern data workflows. In this role, the engineer will take ownership of core backend systems and play a critical role in shaping the product and technical architecture from the early stages of the company. Responsibilities include designing scalable backend services, building distributed systems, improving production data pipelines, and developing AI-enabled systems using technologies such as Python, AWS, and LangGraph. The role requires strong experience in backend engineering, distributed systems, and production data platforms along with the ability to translate real-world engineering challenges into reliable and scalable solutions. Candidates should have at least five years of software engineering experience and ideally previous exposure to startup environments. Knowledge of Rust is considered a plus. This hybrid role is based in London and offers a competitive salary up to £125K–£130K with equity options. Visa sponsorship may also be available for suitable international candidates.
