The Engineering Manager at Monzo Bank will lead cross-functional, mission-driven teams of product managers, backend, web and mobile engineers, designers, data scientists, and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality technical outcomes, foster engineering excellence, and create an inclusive, high-performing culture. Responsible for managing a group of around 7–10 engineers, you will guide delivery in collaboration with technical leads and product managers, mentor and develop talent, partner with senior engineers to drive technical initiatives, and maintain a high bar for engineering standards. While the role does not involve hands-on coding, strong technical expertise and prior experience as a software engineer are essential, along with the ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous problem spaces, coach teams to achieve their goals, and optimise for impactful results. The position offers a competitive base salary of £110,500–£145,000 plus stock options, benefits, visa sponsorship, relocation support, flexible working arrangements (London or remote within the UK), and a £1,000 annual learning budget. You will contribute to Monzo’s growth across Platform, Core App, and Expansion areas while working in a collaborative environment committed to innovation, inclusion, and work-life balance.
