This role involves developing and maintaining mission-critical software for subsea power transmission equipment, where the candidate will write low-level C code, implement communication protocols, and integrate software with hardware. Key responsibilities include analyzing and scaling software requirements to design technical solutions, participating in architectural discussions, conducting rigorous unit and pre-integration testing, and maintaining clear documentation of software structures and design decisions. The engineer will also collaborate closely with software and hardware development teams and validation engineers to ensure the system’s robustness. Essential skills include proficiency in bare-metal C coding, experience with control theory (such as Z-transforms and filter algorithms for DC-DC converters), and expertise in interpreting data sheets and configuring multi-function chips. Additional experience with machine code, interrupts, and using test equipment like scopes and analysers is necessary. Knowledge of DSP chips, VHDL for FPGA/CPLD programming, and communication protocols like RS232/424, SPI, CAN Bus, USB, and Ethernet is desirable.
