You will be part of a team of around 8 Electronics technicians in the School of Engineering. Duties vary by season: during term-time (October to March), the focus is on student teaching support, including preparing and setting up teaching laboratory classes, ensuring equipment is available and functional, and providing guidance when needed, especially during project work in February and March where you may manufacture PCBs and assist students. During the non-teaching period (April to September), the focus shifts to supporting research activities by designing and building equipment, including analogue and digital systems, microcontrollers, high voltage systems, and multi-kilowatt systems, and creating new lab tools for future teaching. You’ll also offer advice on electronics and electrical issues, diagnose and repair lab equipment, and help construct, develop, and repair electronic instruments. The role includes using CAD software for circuit design and PCB fabrication, applying safety practices, and communicating effectively with students and staff. Required qualifications include knowledge of electronics theory, analogue/digital circuits, embedded systems, and health and safety standards. Desirable skills include using PCB design tools (like Altium, Eagle, Kicad), programming in LabView/C/Python, and experience with microcontrollers like Arduino or Raspberry Pi. This is a full-time, permanent early-career technical position with in-house and external training opportunities, offering a salary of £23,881 - £26,338 per annum and based in the James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow.
