About the job

The Deputy Director of Software Development at Jisc will lead and inspire multiple software development teams to deliver innovative, high-quality digital products and services that meet the needs of the UK education and research sector. This senior leadership role requires strong technical knowledge, strategic vision, and the ability to foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and user-focused design. The post-holder will be responsible for shaping the organisation’s software development strategy, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards, while adopting modern development practices such as agile methodologies, DevOps, and cloud-based architectures. The role involves close collaboration with stakeholders across Jisc, including product managers, UX designers, and infrastructure teams, to align development work with business priorities. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in leading complex, large-scale software projects, excellent communication and people management skills, and the ability to balance strategic direction with hands-on problem-solving. Jisc holds an active Skilled Worker visa sponsor licence, so candidates meeting UK Home Office requirements can apply; however, relocation costs, visa fees, and the immigration health surcharge are not covered.
