About the job

The University of Sussex is seeking a Data Architect to help shape and deliver a data-focused future for researchers, students, and staff as part of its ambitious decade-long strategy. This permanent role, based in Brighton, offers a full-time or part-time schedule with flexible working options subject to business needs, and a salary up to £79,084 per annum (including market supplement until December 2026). As a Data Architect, you will work across project portfolios to develop data models, standards, and products, advance reporting and analytic technologies including AI, and support data migration and integration efforts. You will collaborate with IT Services colleagues and stakeholders across the university, contributing to data initiatives aligned with the Sussex 2035 strategy. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in data architecture or a similar role, excellent knowledge of data-related solutions and approaches, and strong communication skills to build networks with data professionals university-wide. Familiarity with architecture and process standards such as Archimate, BPMN, DMN, TOGAF, and experience with modeling tools is desirable. This role sits within a dynamic division led by the Chief Digital and Technology Officer, focused on digital transformation, infrastructure upgrades, and delivering a fully data-enabled organisation. The university values diversity and inclusion and offers a supportive work environment with excellent transport links and cycling schemes. Visa sponsorship may be available for eligible candidates. Interviews will be conducted via MS Teams and include a short presentation.
