The Chief Engineer at Ferguson Marine plays a pivotal leadership role in overseeing all mechanical commissioning, system readiness, and vessel handover operations during ship construction and retrofit projects. This role involves managing setting-to-work (STW) activities for main and auxiliary engines, fuel systems (including diesel, LNG/LPG), HVAC, freshwater, compressed air, propulsion, ballast, bilge, and cargo systems. The engineer will collaborate closely with electrical and automation teams, support integrated testing, lead mechanical handover to the crew, deliver technical training, and manage documentation. Key responsibilities also include planning and supervising sea trials, resolving issues in real-time, supporting dry-docking and warranty periods, and ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements including SOLAS, MARPOL, and the IGF Code. The role requires strong technical leadership, coordination with OEMs, and the ability to lead field teams and subcontractors. A degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Naval Engineering and extensive shipyard experience are essential, with LNG/LPG system experience and Chief Engineer credentials considered a strong asset.
