Monzo Bank is hiring for the role of Backend Engineer III, a technology position focused on designing, building, and maintaining Monzo’s in-house banking platform as part of a collaborative squad environment. Engineers work closely with product managers, marketers, designers, mobile engineers, data analysts, writers, and other disciplines to create impactful solutions that improve the customer experience. The role covers a wide range of areas including distributed systems, resilient software development, and building features across collectives such as Core Banking, Business Banking, Wealth, Borrowing, Growth, Payments, Platform, Fincrime, Security, and Expansion. Monzo uses technologies like Go for application code, Cassandra for data storage, Kafka for asynchronous messaging, Kubernetes and Docker for service orchestration, Envoy Proxy for RPC, AWS for production infrastructure, and GCP for data infrastructure, while React is used for web apps and internal tools. Candidates are not required to have a formal degree, but should have strong backend engineering experience, a product mindset, comfort working with ambiguity, and familiarity with strongly typed languages such as Go, Java, C, or Scala. The company offers a flexible, remote-first work environment within the UK, supports relocation, and provides visa sponsorship for eligible candidates.
