About the job

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is offering an exciting opportunity for three individuals to join as Apprentice Clinical Engineering Technologists under a 3-year Level 6 apprenticeship programme, combining academic study and on-the-job training. This apprenticeship provides a pathway into a vital and highly specialized healthcare technology role within the Clinical Engineering department, a team of approximately 37 staff dedicated to maintaining and supporting the full lifecycle of medical equipment across multiple UCLH hospital sites. The successful candidates will work full-time while pursuing a BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Science (Clinical Engineering) at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol through a combination of online and in-person learning. Apprentices will progressively develop technical skills in maintenance, calibration, testing, and repair of medical devices, while also gaining experience in quality systems, safety regulations, and healthcare environments. Duties will include performing planned and corrective maintenance, acceptance testing, and equipment calibration, ensuring that all medical equipment functions efficiently and safely for patient care. The role is ideal for individuals with strong attention to detail, curiosity about technology, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced hospital environment. Applicants must hold a minimum of five GCSEs (including English, Maths, and Science) and at least 96 UCAS points in relevant A-levels or equivalent, such as Science, Maths, or Engineering. This position is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 36 months, paid under NHS Agenda for Change Band 5 (Annex 21) with incremental salary increases each year. Importantly, the trust welcomes applications from individuals requiring Skilled Worker visa sponsorship, provided they meet the UKVI eligibility criteria. The apprenticeship includes group assessments and individual interviews scheduled for June 16, 2025, and candidates must not be enrolled in any other educational programme. UCLH is recognized for its commitment to staff satisfaction, flexible working, sustainability, and innovation, offering a supportive and inclusive workplace to develop a meaningful career in healthcare technology.
